Faculty Honored at CAS Reception |
Two MCIS faculty members were honored with prestigious awards at the annual College of Arts and Sciences reception. Dr. Andrew Ciganek was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award for the College of Arts and Sciences (which MCIS department chair Dr. Fred Kelley accepted on his behalf as Dr. Ciganek is teaching in Thailand this summer) while Dr. Jeffrey Chen received the Distinguished Research Award for the College of Arts and Sciences. These honors are particularly impressive for the MCIS department as they comprise two of the three major awards that are given by the college each year and continues the strong tradition of previous honorees from the MCIS department. |

State Tournament a Success! |
Hundreds of players and supporters attended the 2008 Alabama Scholastic Chess Championships this past weekend to make it a rousing success for its host, the MCIS department. From the Web casting of all top games with live commentary, to the demonstration (and participation) of computer games produced by computer science students in our game programming classes, to the dozens of volunteers that helped out over the weekend, this was truly a wonderful event that showcased the exciting things happening in the MCIS department. |
