Catalog Course Description: A brief exposure to theory and operations
of data processing. Concepts presented include computer systems, hardware
and software. Hands-on experience with selected productivity software
packages.
Objectives:
1. To expose the student to the concepts of a complete computer-based
information processing system.
2. To develop an understanding of the terminology unique to the computer
science field.
3. To provide hands-on experience with both hardware and software capabilities
by requiring the student to learn to use selected software packages.

Pop Tests may be given at any time and will be averaged in with class work assignments
Any student who receives failing grades during this course is
urged to discuss this with me. Tutors may be obtained in the basement
of the library through CII. Apply early!
Grading: The final grade for this course will be determined
by performance on exams, assignments, class attendance, and class participation.
The 10 point grade scale will be used : 90-100 = A etc.
Course Policies
1. You may not talk when I am talking.
2. If you must leave the class during class time, do not return to the class until the following class meeting.
3. Roll will be called each day. Class attendance and participation will directly affect your grade.
Two hour classes during May and June are considered 2 classes and
result in 2 absences per day if you are absent on one or more days.
4. Arrive to class on time. If you arrive late, the door will be closed and you will not be allowd to attend class.
5. Special situations (school events, personal crises, etc.)
should be brought to my attention as soon as possible.
6. If a student misses an exam, arrangements for the makeup exam should
be made within 1 week. It is the student's responsibility to request
a make-up exam. The absence must be legitimate (doctor's excuse, etc.)
Written excuses are required. Only two make-up exams are allowed. All others must be taken on time.
Exams not taken will result in a zero. No make-up will be given on any
missed pop test.
7. Lab/homework assignments are 10 points. Five points will be deducted each day late. If you know that you will be absent,
you may turn in your assignment early.No points will be given for only sending the electronic copy.
Five points for the hard copy and no electronic copy.
8. Students will be working together in the lab portion of the class;
however, students are expected to complete their homework assignments
on their own. A grade of ZERO will be given for ALL involved in copying homework assignments and projects.
9. All students are expected to attend class fully prepared with appropriate materials and all devices which make noise turned to the off position (e.g., cellular phones, pagers, personal stereos, etc.).
No electronic equipment may be used during exams. No tobacco related products in class.
10. 11. Any student behavior deemed disruptive by the professor will result in expulsion of the student
