Grants Awarded:
1. 2005. EMCAT: Exploring Mathematical Concepts through Application
of Technology; grant submitted to the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE). Funded in the
amount of $115, 970.83, this grant supported a weeklong summer workshop (July 18–22, 2005) in content and pedagogy for secondary mathematics teachers

Application of Science and Technology, grant submitted to Alabama
Commission on Higher Education (ACHE).
This unfunded grant project, led by Sondra Yarbrough and Cynthia Harper
in the College of Educational

support for new faculty. As a fellow, I have taken part in Project NExT activities at the MAA MathFest
in Madison, WI,
in August 2001; the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San
Diego, CA, in

Mathematical Association of America
(MAA) Mathfest, Burlington,
VT.
32. April
30, 2002.

NSF-02-061. This proposal was not
funded. Dr. Nouredine
Zettili and Dr. Sheila Webb were the main Principal
Investigators for this proposal.
Numerous other faculty members and representatives from area school
systems were involved with this proposal, which would have brought in around $1
million per year for at least five years. I attended numerous planning meetings
with both large and small groups and agreed to serve as the Mathematics
Curriculum Committee Chairperson. I
attended a national NSF Workshop with Dr. Zettili and
Dr. Cynthia Harper in March 2002 to learn more about this program, so that we
could increase our chances of being funded.
In March, Dr. Harper and I spoke to a large group about what we had
learned at this workshop. I also contacted
the Alabama State Department of Education to gather data on the number of
out-of-field teachers in math and science statewide and locally.
