(The test will NOT cover 2.7 which is more word problems... We will cover those as we go through Chapter 3.) If you were absent or late to class and did not receive WS#3, you will find it on my web page. For all the worksheets, the answers are found as a separate page for that worksheet so that you can check your answers. Answers to WS#3 also show you the equation that should have been set up for the word problem. For ALL word problems on work that is handed in, you MUST SHOW the equation that you set up. If there is more than one unknown, you should also label what your x, etc represents (Label the unknown.) WS#2 thru 6 were given out in class today. You may get your copy by asking in class or by printing off the web page. WARNING: The web page should display the corrected Worksheet number (These were taken from another class); however, I can't get adobe to also print the correction, so you will need to do that by hand. |
| Thur. | Sep 27 | HW#1 for 2.5
HW#2 in 2.5 do ALL the evens; in 2.6 do ALL of #11-16 Finish #15 - 20 on WS#3. ALSO: Do Worksheet #4 (Do work for worksheets on separate paper so that you can keep your worksheet and so that you can have room to organize your work properly.) |
| Mon. | Oct 1 | HW#1 for 2.8
HW#2 in 2.8 do ALL the evens ALSO DUE TUES: WS#5 will be counted as a Quiz grade. Remember you can check all of your answers to this worksheet by looking at the last page of the worksheet on my web page. |
| Tues. | Oct 2 | HW#1 is Ch 2 Review: Do All of 1-44 and All of 47-53 on pp 179-180.
HW#2 is WS#7 and will be counted as a Quiz grade. WS#7 was given out in class. Since this was copied from another text book, I don't have a convenient way to upload it to my web page. However, if you were absent and couldn't get the problems from a friend, you can get a copy at the beginning of class and turn it in before you leave. You may also get a copy of the quiz that we did in class today; however, I will not be able to give you credit for working it late. Please ask me for these 2 things, as I might forget. ALSO: Do the odds on WS#6. This will also be counted as a QUIZ grade; however, you can use your notes, etc as if it is regular homework. Remember that you can get the answers to this worksheet from my web page as a check on your work. CAUTION: For both WS#7 & WS#6, I don't mind you skipping steps, and some problems can be worked without showing any work; however, where it is obvious that work needed to be done, you will not get credit for the problem if you do not show your work! REMEMBER TEST #2 IS THURSDAY!!! |
| Wed. | Oct 3 | No HW#1 assignment.
HW#2 do the evens on WS#6. Remember you can check your answers on my web page. This will give you some more review problems before the test. Don't panic over problems like 37, 49, 59 & 74 from this worksheet. We have not discussed this situation in class before today, so I will not hold you responsible for this kind of problem on this test. We will discuss these further later on. This assignment can be turned in Thurs. before the test, or you may wait and turn it in on Mon. REMEMBER TEST #2 IS TOMORROW!!! |
| Thur. | Oct 4 | TEST #2 |
| Mon. | Oct 8 | CHANGE IN HOMEWORK ARRANGEMENT: Due to our assistant having other duties outside
of our class time, I will need to shorten the amount of homework that she will
be able to grade. So, she will now just check to see if you have worked the
problems for HW#1. You will be responsible to make sure that your answers are correct.
HW#2 will be a shorter assignment that will still be carefully checked for correct
answers and correct work. There will also now be a HW#3 assignment that will NOT BE
TURNED in. Your motivation for doing this assignment should be to learn how to do the
problems better. The old cliche of "Practice makes perfect." may not be exactly
true; but it is an obvious and well known fact that the more repetition there is, the
better we become at most any task.

You should do the HW#1 assignment (eoo) for both these sections, so you will have a good idea tomorrow if you need help with these problems. I kept the HW#2 assignment shorter than usual. NOTE for the TEST QUESTIONS on 3.6: I am going to give you a break and will provide the Point-Slope Formula for the test so that you do not have to memorize it. You will be expected to know the slope formula for finding the slope of the line containing 2 points and for knowing the Slope-Intercept Form of the equation of a line. |

I forgot to hand this out in class today, so be sure to pick it up before leaving the test on Thursday. NOTE for HW#2: Do the work neatly on your own paper so that your work can be checked. If you can work the problem in your head (such as #37-50), then it is OK to put down the answer only. NOTE for TEST: I will try to get to the room about 15 minutes early. If you usually take longer on the test, you may start early. |

NOTE on WS#10 on web page: When you click on WS#10, the worksheet that comes up will be labeled as #3... | Thur. | Oct 25 | CULMULATIVE TEST #1
REMEMBER assignment due on Monday (See above) Midterm grades have been posted. See me if you have a question. |
| Mon. | Oct 29 | HW#1 for 5.2
HW#2: in 5.2, evens thru #64 HW#3: Rest of 5.2; WS#10 evens #2 - 62 NOTE on today's assignment: Negative exponents are likely a new idea for most of you. If you were not in class today, you can, of course, look at the examples in the book. The easiest way I have of thinking of negative exponents is that they tell you to invert whatever they are "attached to." The inverse position of the numerator is the denominator, and the inverse position of the denominator is the numerator. Hopefully, you can get started on these, but, of course, you can ask questions in class tomorrow. Tentative Date for Ch 5 Test is below. |
| Tues. | Oct 30 | HW#1 for 5.3
HW#2 in 5.3, evens #2 - 46; 50 - 70 HW#3 Rest of 5.3; WS#10 odds #64 - 120 |
| Wed. | Oct 31 | SEE BELOW |
| Thur. | Nov 1 | MY APOLOGIES for not showing up Wed. I was supposed to get up in time to
call the office and have them notify you not to wait for me; however, due to the bad
bug I had, I over slept and by the time I called,
I think everyone had given up and left.
Apparently, many of you thought that my absence was going
to continue thru today, but I am
back. Make sure you notice the new homework assignments due on Mon.
HW#1 for 5.4 and 8.1 (#33 - 81) .... that is e.o.o. for both. HW#2: In 5.4 evens #2 - 34 and in 8.1 evens #32 - 68 HW#3: The rest of 5.4 and the rest of 8.1 for 31 - 84. I am still aiming at 11/8 for the next test. |
| Mon. | Nov 5 | HW#1 for 5.5 thru #63; for 6.1 thru #33 (e.o.o. for both)
HW#2 In 5.5, do the evens thru #56; WS#11 odds #1 - 57 (WS#11 was given out in class today but is available on my web page. Answers are also available as the last page of that document.) HW#3 Rest of 5.5 & 6.1 thru #34. |

HW#2: Ch. 5 Review, the evens thru #40 HW#3: The Rest of Ch 5 Review (thru #40). Look over parts of WS#10 - 12 that you have not done, and work any problems that you think you would have trouble with. |

It is there now as well as WS#14. Yes, I skipped WS#13. NOTE: Judging from the work on the homework, most of you still need a lot of practice on factoring and on radicals. I suggest that you could benefit from reworking some of these assignments to get more practice and to get thoroughly familiar with the patterns involved. |
| Mon. | Nov 19 | ASSIGNMENT DUE ON MONDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING:
HW#2: In 1.7: #81 - 84 (ALL); in 2.7: #21 - 24; 29, 30 (ALL); in 3.1: #47 - 50 (ALL) NOTE: Yes, these are from previous lessons that you may have already done. I have realized that these are some problem types that I did not emphasize that will be covered on the Final Exam, so you need to go back over them more thoroughly. |
| Tues. | Nov 20 | Chapter 6 TEST to cover 6.1, 6.2, 6.4, 6.5 and 8.2 (Thru #59). Yes, I know that 6.1 was covered on the last test also; however, factoring by greatest common factor is a necessary technique for any further factoring. Also, you will notice that these kinds of problems are covered in 6.5 and WS#14 as techniques to being able to factor completely for certain problems. |
| Wed. | Nov 21 |
