WS - Worksheet
Mon. Jan 14 3.4T&G, F & A (See Syllabus for page & problem numbers.)
We started a discussion of 3.5, but I did not make that assignment yet.
Wed. Jan 16 We had a shorter class due to the bad weather. New assignment is 3,5 T, G & F.
Mon. Jan 21 No Classes
Wed. Jan 23 3.6Fa, 3.6Fb; 3.6A; 3.7Fa; 3.7Fb; Notes #1 & Notes #2
Check out & print if helpful Notes #1 on the Definition of the Derivative and when the Derivative does not exist. You will definitely want to get Notes #2 to help with upcoming application problems.
Mon. Jan 28 Finish 3.6A; 4.1F
Wed. Jan 30 3.8F, G & A; 4.2F
Check out the Notes on Log & e. Look at 2.2 & 2.3 in the book as needed to review ideas on exponential and logarithmic functions.
If I get time tomorrow, I will try to give some help to those that missed class or had to leave early. This could be helpful to those in class also, so you might want to check back here.
Mon. Feb 4 Finish 4.2F; 4.3F
Major Test #1 date is below.
Wed. Feb 6 3.7A, 4.1A, 5.1G
REMEMBER MT#1 DATE IS BELOW
Mon. Feb 11 Test Review.
Highlighted Syllabus was posted on Thursday evening (2/7).
Wed. Feb 13 MAJOR TEST #1
NOTE: Take-Home Part and "Reworks" are due on Mon 2/18. If you can not make it to class, it is your responsibility to have someone turn your work in for you. It may be brought to my office and slid completely under my door if I am not available. Except for drastic circumstances, I will expect this by 6:00 PM Mon 2/18.
Mon. Feb 18 5.1F; 5.2F; 5.2A
At least try to do a couple in 5.2A. We did not do an example in class; however we did discuss the principle ideas involved, so you should be able to give it a try.
Wed. Feb 20 Finish 5.2A; 4.4F
We have not talked about Logarithmic Differentiation (4.4, #43 - 52) yet, so you can let those wait til Mon.
Mon. Feb 25 Finish 4.4F (#43-52); 5.3F; 5.3Ga; 5.3A (#59-61)
Wed: Bring WS#1 and the 2 Answer Pages (Print off my web page)
See Test Date Below.
If you missed class today, you will probably need to get someone's notes and/or help to understand how to relate the graphs of a function, its first derivative and its second derivative.
You will also probably need some help to understand "Logarithmic Differentiation" (4.4, #43-52) I gave some problems in class similar to 51 & 52 to give more practice with this type that must be done by this method. The other problems in this area can also be done by a combination of product, or quotient rules with the chain rule.
Wed. Feb 27 5.3Gb; Finish 5.3A; WS#1 (Graphing)... Be sure to get both of the Answer Pages
TEST DECISION... I gave the class the option of having the test on Wed. 3/5 or on Wed. 3/12.... Everyone that was there definitely preferred the 12th. This will mean that you will be doing the Take-home and the Rework over Spring Break
Mon. Mar 3 WS#2... More graphing... This time from the "Number Line Information." Includes ideas about asymptotes.
We discussed also how to find the Vertical & Horizontal Asymptotes of Rational Functions.
REMEMBER TEST DATE BELOW!
Wed. Mar 5 5.4A; Continue working on graphing.
(Test moved to next week.)
I gave out a "Worksheet" of Rational Functions to give us some more examples to find Vertical and Horizontal Asymptotes. If you didn't get one, come by and pick one up.
Thur. Mar 6 Midterm
This a Thursday. No class.
Mon. Mar 10 LAST DAY TO DROP WITHOUT PENALTY. (NO SIGNATURE NEEDED)
