Transfer file between two
computers:
Goal:
Create a connection between two home computers and copy file
from one another
Equipment Needed:
- Crossover
Cable; buy from Wal-Mart, Circuit
City, Best Buy etc.
- Network
Card: Usually your computer should already have one installed; if not buy
it from Wal-Mart, Circuit City,
Best Buy etc.
Tasks:
- Plug
in the network cable to Network Cards of two computers
- Come
to Computer1 (this is the computer you are going to copy file from) and double
click on “My Computer”
- Right
click on “C” drive go to properties
- Click
on “Sharing” tab and choose “Share this folder” option
- Click
on “New Share” button
- Give a
share name and press OK
- Click
OK on the C drive properties screen
- You
should see a hand under “C” drive. It indicates that the “C” drive is
shared
- Go to
“Network Connections” from control panel of the Computer1; My ComputeràControl
PanelàNetwork
Connections
- Right
click on “Local Area Connection” go to Properties
- Click
on “Internet Protocol TCP/IP”
- Click
on Properties
- Choose
“Use the following IP Address Option”
- Enter
an IP address such as: 205.169.125.131 (write down this IP address you
will need it soon)
- Subnet
Musk should be 255.255.255.0
- Click
OK
- Go to
Computer2
- Do
Steps 9-16 on Computer2; When you enter the IP Address for computer2 keep
the same IP address as Computer1 except the last digit
- Close
everything and go to Desktop
- Open
Windows Explorer of Computer2 StartàProgramsàAccessoriesàWindows
Explorer (It could be under Programs; so look for it in the entire menu)
- Double
click on “My Network Places”
- Double
Click on “Entire Network”à“MS Windows Network”à“Computer1
Network” (in your case it will be your computer1 name network)
- You
will see the Computer1’s “C” drive icon in there
- Congratulations
you have been connected
- You
can copy files from Computer1 now
