CATALOG DESCRIPTION

The content of this course is a brief exposure to theories and operations of Information Technology. Concepts presented in classes or labs include computer ~ systems, hardware and software. This course offers hands-on experience with selected productivity software packages.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. To let students gain an understanding about computer based information system
  2. To provide hands-on experiences and have students gain proficient skills on office application software such as MS Office 2003 suite

 

POLICIES

  1. Roll will be called daily. The necessity to attend classes and labs on a regular basis will soon be apparent. You may not leave the class when it is in progress. This attitude will be counted as an absent for that day.
  2. A hundred Percent attendance is recommended. Most lectures and labs will include topics from previous lectures. Private lectures will not be provided if the student is absent in the class or the lab without a valid reason. Student is responsible for all announcements and assignments made in class.
  3. If a student misses an exam, arrangements for the makeup exam should be made within one week.  It is student’s responsibility to request for a make-up exam. The reason for absence must be legitimate (doctor’s excuse, etc.).  Only one make-up exam is allowed.  All others must be taken on time.  Unattended Exams will be given a zero grade.
  4. There will be no make up for a quiz, extra credit assignment, and in-class assignment.
  5. All homework assignments must be turned within the due date. Students will not be allowed to complete assignments during lectures. Late assignments will not be accepted without a medical certificate.
  6. Students are expected to complete their homework assignments on their own. All projects that indicate plagiarism will result in a zero for all the parties involved.
  7. All students are expected to attend the class fully prepared with appropriate materials and all devices. This includes the book, pen, a notebook, and a floppy diskette or a jump drive. Instruments or devices such as cellular phones, pagers, personal stereos, etc. that make noise must be turned off while the session is in progress.
  8. Students are not allowed to be online or play computer games during lectures unless asked by the instructor for learning purpose. Students found involved in this activity will be asked to leave the lab instantly.
  9. Any student behavior deemed disruptive by the instructor will result in expulsion of the student from the classroom, with an absence for the day and possible disciplinary action.
  10. While lecture/lab in progress a student may not hold a conversation with his/her neighbors. Student expressing such behavior will be asked to leave the class at once. Remember other students may find this behavior disturbing towards their learning process.
  11. Absolutely no form of communication what so ever with your neighbor during any test or quiz.
  12. Students are expected to attend the class on time. Any student who is late more than five minutes may not be allowed to attend the session.
  13. No tobacco related products in class.

DISKETTE

A Jump Drive or a 100 MB zip disk is required.  It is each student’s responsibility to turn homework/test in proper format. An excuse such as “Jump Drive is malfunctioning” is not acceptable to turn late assignment or test.

It is your job to remember to bring your memory devices to the class. Excuse such as “did not remember to bring memory device” is not valid in a scenario when your home work/test is due.

Also there will be bonus points given for achievements made by students. Extent of bonus points and circumstance for such reward will be determined by the instructor. Positive attitude towards learning and sincere approach to the class will bring you this reward.

You must take the first quiz and score a 100% in order to continue this course. You can take this quiz as many times until you score a 100%.
