Drill and Practice (in disguise!)

Have some fun with each of the following.  Then, use a variable for the number you pick to explain each answer.

I.  1.  Pick and number between 1 and 100.
    2. Double it.
    3. Add 10 to your answer.
    4. Take half of what you have now.
    5. Subtract 5 from that.
 

II.1. Pick and number between 1 and 100.
    2. Add 10 to it.
    3. Double the result.
    4. Add 100.
    5. Take half of the result.
    6. Subtract the number you started with.
 

III1. Choose any two odd numbers or any two even   numbers.
    2. Add the two numbers together.
    3. Divide the sum by 2.
    4. Subtract the smaller of your two original numbers from the larger.
    5. Divide the difference by 2.
    6. Add the two quotients.
 

IV.1. Pick a number.
     2. Add 11.
     3. Multiply by 6.
     4. Subtract 3.
     5. Divide by 3.
     6. Subtract 6 less than the original number.
     7. Subtract one more than the original number.
     8. Divide by 2.
 

Three digit Fun

I.  1. Pick a three digit number making all three digits different.
 (Example: 542)
    2. Write the three digits down twice making a 6-digit number.
 (Example: 542,542)
    3. Divide the number by 7.
    4. Divide the result by 11.
    5. Divide that answer by 13.

 Surprised?

Now multiply 7 x 11 x 13 and that answer by the number you picked.  Can you explain?
 

II. 1. Pick a three digit number making all three digits different.
    2. Turn it around.
    3. Put the larger number on top and subtract.
    4. Turn the difference around.
    5. Add that number to the difference.
    6. Use your result as a code to answer the question below.
